DARK ROOM :

Crossed transmissions

july 16 - September 10, 2022

Cannibalistic Caterpillar's multimedia installation Crossed Transmissions is a merging of analog and digital technology to represent the feedback loop of information media...from the television to our brains, regurgitated from mouth to phone, and back to broadcast media...eventually siphoned into a collaged realism to project upon others. Are we truly individual, or are we part of an autonomous hive-mind that synthesizes a collective reality? If we believe intently enough, can falsehoods become solidified truths?

Cannibalistic Caterpillar is a sound and vision project by Justin Scheid and Brian Akenoh. Cannibalistic Caterpillar works to bring attention to changing social currents and undying injustices through the mediums of old and new technology. Their work reflects on the evolution of Western society through the investigation of organic relationships between humans and machines.

The group utilizes live projections, CRTVs, analog circuitry, synthesizers, guitar pedals, homemade noise boxes, and live sampling to deliver intense improvisatory performances and immersive installations. Though primarily a duo, guest collaborators are not uncommon. Notable past collaborators include guitarist Barbara Arellano, trombonist Ryan Stewart, violinist Kaija Hansen, and dancer Lilly Wilde. The group is based in Los Angeles, CA.
