TAM ACTIVATED: Matt Barbier
Sunday, December 10, 2017, 3 - 4:30 PM
Matt Barbier is an LA based trombonist and composer focused on experimental intonation, noise, and the physical processes of his instrument. He teaches at CalArts and LACC.
"of intense, brilliant, virtuosic growling that gave the striking impression that Barbier was dismantling the instrument while playing it." - LA Times/Mark Swed
"ominously rattling slabs of granite or something more akin to power tools gone wild." - Byron Coley, The Wire
"But, like spectacular gore in a horror film, you won’t want to turn away." - Elizabeth Hambleton, New Classic LA
"magnificently abrasive" "LA new-music stalwart" - Alex Ross, The Rest Is Noise
TAM ACTIVATED will feature performing artists and ensembles expanding the boundaries of music, dance and theater. This year includes trombonist Matt Barbier, Opera Povera composer/director Sean Griffin, dancer/choreographer Milka Djordjevich, and Southland Ensemble.
